Kārena and Kasey Bird (Ngāpuhi, Ngāti Whakaue, Ngāti Manawa) are award-winning chefs, authors, and television hosts from Maketū, New Zealand. After winning MasterChef NZ in 2014, they have created acclaimed pop-up events and dining experiences across Aotearoa, published bestselling cookbooks, and hosted international food series. Named among the Cuisine Top 50 Women in Food (2023 & 2025), their work celebrates kai as a vessel for memory, culture, and connection, blending modern techniques with the traditions and landscapes of te ao Māori. They are currently writing their first te reo Māori cookbook in collaboration with Huia Publishers, Kotahi Rau Pukapuka, and Te Rawhitiroa Photography.
