Te Arawa, Patuharakeke, Kāi Tahu

Hamish Bennett (Te Arawa, Patuharakeke, Kāi Tahu) is a director and screenwriter. In 2019, he wrote and directed his debut feature film, Bellbird, which premiered in competition at the Sydney International Film Festival. In 2023, Hamish co-wrote and co-directed his second film, Uproar, which celebrated its world premiere at the 2023 Toronto International Film Festival. Hamish has directed two award-winning short films: The Dump in 2011, and Ross & Beth in 2014. Beyond his creative work, Hamish has over twenty years of experience as a school teacher, and has recently returned to Aotearoa with his whānau after two years in Rarotonga.
