Hana Mereraia is a product of the Kōhanga Reo and Kura Kaupapa Māori language revitalisation movement. A graduate of Te Panekiretanga o Te Reo Māori (School of Excellence in the Māori Language), she is a reo Māori advisor, translator, composer and songwriter. Hana has worked extensively across music, film, and television, most recently co-leading the groundbreaking project Kōkōuri, a three-part album series showcasing new waiata in te reo Māori. She has also been part of the music teams for Disney Reo Māori adaptations including The Lion King, Frozen, Coco, Moana 2, Encanto and Shrek Reo Māori. In recognition of her contributions, Hana was a finalist for the APRA Silver Scroll Awards (2024) and is a Tohu Maioha nominee (2025). She continues to collaborate with both established and emerging artists to reimagine waiata in te reo Māori, including Lorde, Coterie, Tim Finn, Melodownz, RIIKI Reid, Muroki, Stan Walker, Paige and many others.
